Games Played on Networks

چکیده
This chapter studies games played on fixed networks. These games capture a wide variety of economic settings including local public goods, peer effects, and technology adoption. We establish a common analytical framework to study a wide game class. We unearth new connections between games in the literature and in particular between those with binary actions, like coordination and best-shot games, and those with continuous actions and linear best replies. We review and advance existing results by showing how they tie together within the common framework. We discuss the game-theoretic underpinnings of key notions including Bonacich centrality, maximal independent sets, and the lowest and largest eigenvalue. We study the interplay of individual heterogeneity and the network and we develop a new notion interdependence to analyze how a shock to one agent affects the action of another agent. We outline directions for future research. *Prepared for the Oxford Handbook on the Economics of Networks, Yann Bramoullé, Andrea Galeotti and Brian Rogers (Eds), Oxford University Press. Robust Opponent Modeling in Real-Time Strategy Games using Bayesian Networks
Opponent modeling is a key challenge in Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games as the environment is adversarial in these games, and the player cannot predict the future actions of her opponent. Additionally, the environment is partially observable due to the fog of war. In this paper, we propose an opponent model which is robust to the observation noise existing due to the fog of war. In order to cope...
متن کاملHow Soft Games Can Be Played
This paper shows how games can be played that involve natural language, learning, and evolutionary ctitious play. This is implemented using respectively fuzzy logic, neural networks, and evolutionary programming. Because of this combination, they can be called soft games. The algorithm is described, and placed in the context of related research.
متن کاملThe Impact of Playing Word Games on Young Iranian EFL Learners’ Vocabulary Learning and Retention
Acquiring adequate vocabulary in a foreign language is very important but often difficult. Considering the importance of learner’s vocabulary learning and retention, the present study aimed at examining the impact of playing word games on young Iranian EFL learners’ vocabulary learning and retention at Irandoostan language Institute in Tabriz. To that end, 50 female learners at the age range of...
